2 Anatomy of a Sentence Before you take your seats, please pick up a copy of the packet titled Anatomy of a Sentence and the packet titled Grade 11 Argumentative Essay. We are going to read the first page of the packet together and then walk through the exercise together. Please follow along on the first page.

4 Learning Objectives Content Objective: Students will be able to identify whether a sentence is a complete sentence or if it is a fragment. Content Objective: Students will be able to compose an argumentative essay that applies the ACT skills learned in the warm-up to the essay. Students will use textual evidence from the articles to justify their opinions and counterclaim that addressed the other side of the argument. Language Objective: Students will read the articles and make a T-chart that outlines the positive and negative aspects of making bullying a punishable crime. Language Objective: Students can start on their compositions when they are ready to start their rough drafts.

5 Our Writing Prompt Are bullies criminals? Some believe bullying should carry criminal charges, while others argue that criminalizing the act of bullying only adds to the problem. What do you think? Read the articles on bullying and write an essay in which you argue for or against bullying being a punishable crime. Use evidence from the text(s) to support your position.

6 Introduction Bullying is a problem and struggles most adolescents have faced at some point in their lives. A recent debate has been taking place in our society regarding whether or not bullies should be charged with crimes when they take their intimidation of others too far.
