1 Group Do Now Get on your mark You will need to pass out role cards
CHAMPS GREEN C – Level 2 (Conversation) H – Talk to your tablemates A – Discuss your answers M – Remain seated, raise hand first P – SLANT/discussion S – Everyone Shared Group Do Now Get on your mark You will need to pass out role cards Get your notebook ready to take notes 3.

2 Notebook Setup Table of Contents CHAMPS RED NO TALKING!
Topic Inequalities symbols and examples

3 Inequalities symbols and examples
Notebook Setup CHAMPS RED NO TALKING! Inequalities symbols and examples An inequality is like an equation, but instead of an equal sign (=) it has one of these sign < : less than ≤ : less than or equal to > : greater than ≥ : greater than or equal to

4 Inequalities symbols and examples
Notebook Setup CHAMPS RED NO TALKING! Inequalities symbols and examples An inequality is like an equation, but instead of an equal sign (=) it has one of these sign < : less than ≤ : less than or equal to > : greater than ≥ : greater than or equal to

5 How to graph the solutions
> Graph any number greater than. . . < Graph any number less than. . . Graph any number greater than or equal to. . Graph any number less than or equal to. .

6 Step For solving Inequalities
Follow the same rules and steps that we used to solve an equation. Always undo addition or subtraction first, then multiplication or division. Remember if you inverse with multiplication/division with a negative the sign must flip

7 Chapter 2: Inequalities and Graphs
Think back…. Chapter 2: Inequalities and Graphs Last Lesson: Today's Lesson: Next Lesson: We worked on inequalities equations and graphs We will practice what we learn on inequalities We will learn compound inequalities

8 How will I meet the objective today?
What: IWBAT write and solve inequalities. HOW: by working in my groups to write and solve inequalities Proving behavior: I will prove content mastery by receiving 80% on my text book worksheets. (2 MINUTES) Rate Yourself on the objective! 4 - I can teach today’s lesson 3 - I understand most of today’s lesson. 2 - I only understand some of today’s lesson. 1 – I don’t understand today’s lesson.

9 x < 5 means that whatever value x has, it must be less than 5.
Try to name ten numbers that are less than 5!

10 Numbers less than 5 are to the left of 5 on the number line.
5 10 15 -20 -15 -10 -5 -25 20 25 If you said 4, 3, 2, 1, 0, -1, -2, -3, etc., you are right. There are also numbers in between the integers, like 2.5, 1/2, -7.9, etc. The number 5 would not be a correct answer, though, because 5 is not less than 5.

11 Try to name ten numbers that are greater than or equal to
x ≥ -2 means that whatever value x has, it must be greater than or equal to -2. Try to name ten numbers that are greater than or equal to -2

12 Numbers greater than -2 are to the right of -2 on the number line.
5 10 15 -20 -15 -10 -5 -25 20 25 -2 If you said -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc., you are right. There are also numbers in between the integers, like -1/2, 0.2, 3.1, 5.5, etc. The number -2 would also be a correct answer, because of the phrase, “or equal to”.

13 Solving an Inequality Follow the same rules and steps that we used to solve an equation. Always undo addition or subtraction first, then multiplication or division. Remember whatever is done to one side of the inequality must be done to the other side. The goal is to get the variable by itself.

14 Solve an Inequality w + 5 < 8 - 5 -5 w < 3
w < 3 All numbers less than 3 are solutions to this problem! 5 10 15 -20 -15 -10 -5 -25 20 25

15 More Examples 8 + r ≥ -2 -8 -8 r -10 ≥
r All numbers greater than-10 (including -10) 5 10 15 -20 -15 -10 -5 -25 20 25

17 Graphing Calculator Group Work
Reader- Read each question to the group/ keeps team up to pace. Coordinator - Before your team starts working on a problem, please make sure that everybody understands what they need to do. Recorder- Refer to notes to guide your group. Quality Control Make sure that each team member is on task and on the same page. Explain the answer if a member is confused. Point deductions- if your team is off task, talks to team members outside the group, misbehavior, disrespect, and not discussing in complete sentences or using vocabulary. 3 minutes
