Because of sin the million people who crossed the Red Sea with Moses as leader had died during 40 years of wandering

Moses led the Israelites for 40 years and it was now time to enter the promised land
Joshua had been Moses faithful servant
He was one of only 2 of the 12 spies who had given a favourable account of the task ahead

God said: “Now that my servant Moses is dead” Joshua must lead my people He promised Joshua what he had promised Moses about the Promised Land He stated “I will be with you as I was with Moses”
Moses is dead so forget the past
