Burleson Elementary School “100 Years of Excellence” October 3-7, 2016 CLASSROOM STUDIES READING: Mr. Popper’s Penguins -Comprehension Skills: Drawing Conclusions/Questioning -Vocabulary Words: reprove, expedition, prowled, debris, spectacle, encouragement, obedient , broadcast, ventilate, stern -Phonics: Compound Words MATH: Chapter 3- Understand Multiplication LANGUAGE: Irregular Plural Nouns WRITING: When I Grow Up… SCIENCE: Heredity and Diversity SOCIAL STUDIES: Earth’s Population HOMEWORK/TEST MONDAY– 1’s Fluency Side 1&2 -Fluency Passage TUESDAY– 1’s Fluency Side 3 WEDNESDAY –Vocabulary Test -1’s Fluency Side 4 THURSDAY-1’s Fluency Quiz -Complete Fluency Passage Questions FRIDAY- Language and Reading Tests Oct 5th-Picture purchase deadline Oct. 7th-Class Pictures & Picture Remake Oct. 10 and 11-Fall Break Oct. 14th-End of 1st 9 Weeks Oct. 20th-Report Cards Oct. 21st-approved book project Oct. 26-Early Release (11:45) Oct. 31-Book Character Day Nov. 11th- Veteran’s Day (no school) Nov Thanksgiving Break Nov. 28th-Book Project Due Important Reading Information We will be reading the novel Mr. Popper’s Penguins for the next two and one half weeks. We will not be using our reading book. Students will be tested as usual on the phonics and comprehension. However, we will be using vocabulary from Mr. Popper’s Penguins. **Vocabulary will be tested separately** Next book project must be approved by Oct. 21 and is due Nov. 28. It must be a different genre and project than the first book project. Remember to read every day!!
