3 MODERN DEFINITIONS OF FAITH
Dictionary.com Faith is a complete trust in someone or something. Urban Dictionary A total belief in somebody or something. A strong belief of the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction, rather than proof. Strong belief in something without evidence.

4 DEFINITIONS OF FAITH CONT.
Hebrews 11: 1-2 – Message rendition The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. Its our handle on what we cant see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd. Hebrews 11:1-2 - Good News Translation To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see. It was by their faith that people of ancient times won God’s approval.

5 DEFINITIONS OF FAITH CONT.
Hebrews 11: 1 – KJV

6 Recap of what faith is Faith is simply believing and trusting that God is who He says He is and that He is with us and what He says He will do in our lives, He’ll do because He is not a man that He should lie.

7 The hall of faith The hall of faith is our own way of recognizing and learning from men and women – past and present – who have given themselves solely to what they believe in, even though others didn’t. Below are examples of people of faith and what made them stand out.

8 The hall of faith Cont. NOAH This is a man who through faith believed God about the great floods, even though all other people in his generation did not. And he did everything exactly as God had directed him (Gen 6:22). NEHEMIAH This is a man who silenced the nay sayers, and did what they said he couldn’t do – all because he had faith in God. Even when they tried to discourage, mock and scare him, he replied them by saying “the God of heaven will give us success”. Neh 2:20 - NIV

9 The hall of faith Cont. JOSEPH This remarkable man was able to prove to us, that we can be devoted to God, even in the face of massive temptation and peer pressure. Joseph showed that no matter what, God turns everything for our good (Gen 50:20). RUTH This woman of great virtue believed that God was not finished with her, and she was willing to give herself to His will and direction (Ruth 1:16-18)

11 characteristics of faith
From Hebrews 11, we can deduced that the characteristics of faith include: Being certain of the things hoped for in spite of not seeing them. Obtaining God’s approval through exhibiting faith. Clear understanding of the instrumentality of the word of God as potent weapon for our daily living comes through faith. Faith brings about confidence in God that He will do what He say He will do (vs 19).

12 characteristics of faith
Hebrews 11 cont. Faith always finds a reason to believe in God and His promises in spite of the contradiction (vs 20). People who exhibit faith know the word of God. Obedience is a characteristic of faith (vs 8). Faith helps us to heed to God’s warnings as can be seen through Noah in Vs 7. Faith helps us to serve God better and to offer ourselves as living sacrifices (vs 17 and Rom 12:1).

13 characteristics of faith
Hebrews 11 cont. Faith energises the believer to keep trusting. Ephesian 3:20 GNT – “To him who by mean of his power working in us is able to do so much more than we can ever ask for, or even think of”. To cap it up: faith you right with God. Faith is righteousness. Faith justifies us as believers.

14 Personal experiences of faith
Christiana’s experience and Paul’s experience
