2 Figure 1 Comparison of the Two Different Procedures for Preparing Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). (A) Briefly, peripheral venous blood from a patient is withdrawn into tubes. The blood is centrifuged to separate PRP from other blood components. PRP can subsequently be applied as different formulations with therapeutic potential to treat the pathology of the same patient, such as the osteoarthritis of the knee, as shown in the figure. (B) By contrast, allogeneic PRP is obtained from the peripheral blood of one or more healthy donors, and off-the-shelf PRP is prepared and preserved until application. The same batch of this type of PRP may be used to treat a single patient over time or to treat several different patients.
