1. Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the humeral head
Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the humeral head. Coronal oblique T2-weighted spin-echo image (A) of the right shoulder in a 60-year-old man shows osteoarthritis of the glenohumeral joint with osteophyte and osteochondral fracture due to AVN of the humeral head (arrow to defect). Note fracture collapse of the articular surface of the humeral head. There is also associated atrophy of the rotator cuff. T2 fat saturation image (B) again shows osteoarthritis of the glenohumeral joint with AVN causing osteochondral defect of the humeral articular surface and subchondral bone.
