Determine if “exceptional quality reclaimed water” offers beneficial water management opportunities for this community Developed through a 5-year feasibility study Study will help the Truckee Meadows plan and implement water reclamation projects Regional partners are initiating the study RICK

6 Truckee Meadows Regional Water Reclamation
Reno, Sparks and Washoe County each operate water reclamation systems Decades of experience producing high quality reclaimed water for landscaping and industrial uses 15-million gallons delivered per day during summer Provides 10 % of total regional water supply Offers significant environmental benefits “water reuse”, “reclaimed water”, “water recycling” – all describe using high quality wastewater effluent for community benefits

7 Nevada Water Regulations
New regulations being proposed to permit use of “exceptional quality reclaimed water” for groundwater augmentation Category A [presently most stringent] Quality achieved through filtration and disinfection Safe for irrigating parks, ballfields, and agriculture; manufacturing water Category A+, or Exceptional Quality [being developed] Quality achieved through advanced water treatment and natural purification processes Potential uses include groundwater augmentation or high tech manufacturing applications

8 Where would Exceptional Quality Reclaimed Water Be Used?
Groundwater augmentation, drinking water, recreation or environmental uses Storing and securing a drought proof water supply for the future Diversify the region’s water supply portfolio while reducing reliance on the Truckee River Governor’s Drought Forum recommended advanced reclaimed water treatment investigations
