2. We need finite doors in order to enter into the infinitude of God
God as Mother
God as Father
Jesus

3. Is God a Person?
If we really think about the infinite mystery of God, it’s hard to imagine that the word “person” fits
But… most of the doors that help us through to understanding and encountering God are “personal”

4. 3 reasons for struggling with “God as person”
1. Bad religion
2. God of wrath (God of consequences)
3. Encountering “the Ocean”

5. Pros and cons of God as more…
Makes more sense to abstract intelligence
(but less sense to our embodied, emotional selves)
Some of us relate well to mystery of God or God’s presence in nature
(but some find this too distant or “unreal”)
Harder to manipulate an infinite and mysterious God
(but easier to ignore or excuse the challenges from God)

6. So we know God is bigger than the doors, but we still need to use a door (Don’t give up on faith because you’ve used a lousy door!)

and be gracious to you;  the Lord lift up his countenance upon you,
and give you peace.

8. Listening Think of some situation that is troubling you
About your own actions, attitudes, direction?
About a conflict you are in?
About a dilemma or painful situation?
About a decision you need to make?

9. But I have calmed and quieted my soul,     like a weaned child with its mother – Ps.131.2
