2 PART 1 System/Hardware

3 FOR WINDOWS 7 Go to Start/Windows button “All programs” “Accessories”
“System Tools” “System Information” From this you will be able to determine: Operating System (In part 2), Manufacturer, Model, Processor, RAM Go to “components” Click “display” – will get your Video Interface (Graphics Card) Click “network” then “adapter” – look for “Ethernet” for wired adapter name & “wireless” for the wireless adapter Help for part 1 on a windows machine

4 FOR WINDOWS 8 Go to search menu; type and click “Control Panel”
Click “System and Security” Click “Administrative Tools” Click “System Information” “System Summary” – will get your Operating System, Manufacturer, Model, System bits (In part 2), Processor, RAM Expand “Components” & click “Display” – gives you Graphics Controller Expand “Storage” & click “Disks” – “Size” = your Hard Drive Storage Expand “Network” & click “Adapter” – gives you Wired Ethernet and Wireless Adapters

5 FOR WINDOWS 10 Go to search box; type in msinfo32 or system and press enter “System Summary” – provides Operating System, Manufacturer, Model, System bits (In part 2), Processor, RAM Expand “Components” & click “Display” – gives you Graphics Controller Expand “Storage” & click “Storage,” “Drives” – “Size” = your Hard Drive Storage Expand “Network” & click “Adapter” – gives you Wired Ethernet and Wireless Adapter Product Types

6 FOR MAC Go to Apple Icon “About this MAC”
Will show your Operating system (Part 2) Will show RAM and Processor “More Info…” Will show your Graphics Card “System Report” Click “Ethernet Cards” – will show Wired Adapter Click Wi-Fi – will show Wireless Adapter Go back to “About This Mac” – click “Storage” Will show your Hard drive storage

7 IP Address: Go to Google and type in “IP Address” OR
Only share the digits following the last two dots Ex: above IP address would include **.***.74.14

8 Should be operating system bits (32 or 64)
PART 2 Software

9 To find Operating System Bits
For Windows: Pull up “System Information” Look at “System Type” line (x64 = 64 bit; x86 = 32 bit) For Mac: Look at processor name from Part 1. Compare to list below:

10 Applications – choose three you frequently use
For Windows: Go to Start/Search button “My Computer” (called “This PC” in Windows 8 and 10) Click on C Drive (ends with “C:”) Open “Program Files” and “Program Files (x86)” Your application will be in one of those two folders Example of an Installed Path: C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application For Mac: Open Finder app Click “Applications” If application is there simply type “/Applications/Chrome.app”

11 Software License Type Commercial: Copyrighted applications license to users at a price (aka “Payware”) Example: MS Office, Pages, Keynote Freeware: Copyrighted application licensed to users at no cost or optional donation Example: iTunes, Google Chrome, Visual Studio Express Open Source: Software application licensed to users at no cost with source code available Example: Mozilla Firefox, Google Chromium, Linux Shareware: Copyrighted application licensed to users at a modest price, often including either a free trial period, or try-before-you-buy version with reduced features Parallels, Spotify, Norton Antivirus

12 Application Data – Choose your two largest
For Windows Go to “My Computer” (“This PC”) and click on your C drive Click “Users” then select your user name Right click and select “Properties” – shows the size of the folder Data Path example: C:\Users\Lauren\My Pictures For Mac Go to Apple Icon and “About this Mac” Click “More info…” and at top click “Storage” tab Will look like this: Data Path example: Users/Lauren/Pictures Alternate: Open finder and enter “/” to go to root or home directory

Go to Angel’s PerSEC folder in Lessons We recommend you complete the “Copy/Paste PRACTICE” before you submit Open “PerSEC graded” folder and click “PerSEC graded” assignment Copy ONLY the TABLES by using “HTML editor” and “Paste from word” ONLY COPY THE ANSWERS FOR PARTS 3-5 DO NOT INCLUDE THE DIRECTIONS! Click submit at the bottom! If you worked with a Partner make sure the person who did not submit the lab completes the “PerSEC: Partner Confirmation Submission”
