Presentation on theme: "What is a Lexile Measure?"— Presentation transcript:

1 What is a Lexile Measure?
A “Lexile measure” is a number that represents either an individual's reading level or the level of difficulty of a text, book, or magazine article. Each Lexile number has an approximate grade level equivalent for it. (Ex: 1000L = approx. 8th grade reading level)

2 Lexiles for Text The Lexile measure is shown as a number with an "L" after it: 620L is a Lexile of 620. Lexiles are placed in a range of 4 levels in the Read 180 Program: Level 1: L Level 2: L Level 3: L Level 4: L

3 Lexiles for Readers After taking the SRI, students receive an individual Lexile number based on their performance on it. Students should then select books no more than 50 Lexile points above or 100 below your level. Students will make rapid progress by reading and using software adjusted to the appropriate Lexile level.

4 Remember… Don’t judge a book by its cover!
Many variables determine a book’s Lexile level including: The text’s difficulty and vocabulary in it Sentence structure Text format Most importantly, be sure to ENJOY what you’re reading!
