1 TT Upgrade Power Review

2 A Four-Layer UT Detector
For TT upgrade, a 4-layer UT detector and its variation have been simulated. This configuration is based on the current TT with: better inner coverage (down to R=28mm), no gaps between sensors, and better Y segmentation, etc. UT has two stations, four layers: UTaX, UTaU, UTbV, & UTbX, similar to TT. One layer consists of 16 (18 for UTb) long modules and 2 short narrow modules at the top & bottom of beam pipe. A module has 13 (7) sensors with vertical strips. Most sensors have 512 strips (channels) each. The narrow ones have 320 strips per sensor. Those labeled “2” or “4” in the central region have double or quadruple number of strips. In total there are ~0.55 x106 channels, 4288 ASICs. UTaX layer D A 2 4 C B A B C This is not final configuration. 10/12/2012

3 Number of Electronic Channels
The current TT detector has less segmentation in Y. The whole system has ~0.14 x106 channels read out through 1120 ASICs. The UT detector studied has ~0.55 x106 channels, ~4x more channels. There are more configurations to be studied, including options of more layers. Since the RICH1 will be removed, a six-layer UT may be favored. For power supply estimation purpose, one expects that the upgrade TT (UT) will have a factor of 4-6 more channels. 10/12/2012

4 Wiener Maraton power supply
UT Power Supply Model Kapton tape DC-DC converter (2.5 CV) for whole module ASICs at sensor proximity Wiener Maraton power supply Module support The Wiener power supply currently used by TT is a good option. LV DC power is distributed to each module. Power is regulated by constant voltage DC-DC converter at the end of module. Regulated power is distributed to ASICs via Kapton tap. 5 More on Power Regulation
We would like to try out a model with power supply DC-DC converter (2.5 CV)  frontend electronics to check noise performance. More information is needed from the chip designers to validate this model. And we are in touch with Federico Faccio to get prototypes of DC/DC converters. 10/12/2012
