4. What is FD?
The ENIL Freedom Drive is a biennial event organised since 2003, with the aim of providing an opportunity for Independent Living campaigners and Members of the European Parliament (MEP) to meet for the promotion of Independent Living and an exchange of ideas and information.
Main demands
The Freedom Drive demands are an advocacy tool and reflect the current situation of disabled people in Europe. They outline issues that the Freedom Drivers want the European institutions to act upon. The demands are to promote Independent Living and include issues such as:
Deinstitutionalisation
Personal assistance
Inclusive education
Employment
Portability of Independent Living services across the European Union (EU)
The implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with
Disabilities (UN CRPD) in Europe

9. Security measures SECURITY BAGDE GETTING INTO THE PARLIAMENT
In order to participate in activities inside the European Parliament all participants must have a badge. If you did not send your details to organizers when requested, contact ENIL as soon as possible If you have made your request, you will be informed in Brussels where to collect the badge.   
GETTING INTO THE PARLIAMENT
Because of security reasons and because we are a huge group, getting into the Parliament and through the security checks takes time, so please follow the schedule and allow extra time to get into the Parliament (Meeting time: 14:30). Bring your passport or identity card in order to get into the Parliament.

13. t National meetings with MEPs September 29 - afternoon
MEPs are an important lobby target for ENIL. ENIL has as a goal all MEPs to know what Independent Living means and to be aware of the key Independent Living issues.
Before coming to Brussels national meetings with MEPs should be organized. One can meet MEPs individually in the coffee shops, or ask them to book a room to meet the Freedom Drivers coming from the country.
The meetings allow for a mutual exchange giving Freedom Drivers the opportunity to understand how the EU Parliament functions and for MEPs to meet and learn about who we are - members and supporters of the European Independent Living movement. The national meetings also allow for MEPs to learn about what is happening regarding disability issues at the EU level and to hear about the experience in the home countries.
The country contact person should report on the national meeting to the ENIL Secretariat with the names of the MEPs met and the key issues discussed. This will allow for a good follow-up of the meetings.

18. Do not forget your disability parking card if you are driving
Do not forget your disability parking card if you are driving. Parking is free with disability parking card in Brussels.
Bring any technical equipment needed to enjoy & complete your travel.
Make sure you have all of your medication arranged before you leave and carry as hand luggage – you will have to put this in the plastic bags provided at airports. You cannot carry liquids over 100ml in hand baggage.
If any of your technical aids need electric current, check the voltage used in the country you are visiting. Also check which adaptors are needed - the plug configuration may vary from home country.
Keep a copy of the agenda and all contact details/phone numbers of your national contacts.
For entry into the European Parliament please remember to dress smart, we are there to do business. We proudly represent not just ourselves but other people from our country that for one reason or another cannot make this trip.
Keep your passport or national ID with you at all times.
Don’t forget to bring your credit or debit card.
Don’t forget to set up the roaming function on your phone or turn it off before you leave your own country if you do not want extra costs.
At airport check-in request that your chair is handled carefully, a good idea is to bubble wrap it. Some people have suggested that one should go as far as the plane door in the chair and then get it stowed. Some people said they have brought their chairs on board with them. It’s always worth requesting! Remember to register your technical aid and assistance need.

26. With a 3 day pass of 18 euro you can use the transport organized by ENIL to get from your hotel to the FD activities and back
During the day assistance will be provided on regular metro lines during a laps off time. When you arrive at the nearest metro station a shuttle-service (2 adapted vans for four 4 people) and a normal bus will pick you up and bring you to the FD event. For those who really can't walk or roll much a door to door service can be arranged.
At night 7 vans (4 participants per van preferably with hotels in the same direction ) and a bus will pickup the participants and bring them back to their hotel or to gare du nord.
If you want to use the ENIL transport please make sure you have send us your hotel information and if/when you have a meeting at the European Parliament.
