Cystic and varicose bronchiectasis. (A) PA chest radiograph demonstrates bronchiectasis (white arrows). There is also a large cystic lesion in the left lung base (black arrowheads). (B) Lateral view of the same patient also demonstrates bronchiectasis (black arrowheads). (C) Axial CT in lung windows demonstrates a “string of pearls” appearance consistent with varicose bronchiectasis. Black arrowhead denotes a dilated left main bronchus. (D) Axial CT through the lung bases demonstrates the large cystic lesion seen in (A) (black arrowheads). This was proven to communicate with the bronchial tree on contiguous sections, indicating that it is cystic bronchiectasis, rather than some other form of cystic lung disease (ie, lung abscess).
