1 World Friendship Fund You might have heard of the WFF before but I want to take a little time today to explain exactly what WFF is and how the funds are utilized.

2 World Friendship Fund What is the WFF? Part of history
5/12/2018 3:15 PM What is the WFF? Part of history At the end of World War II, Scouts of all ages in war-torn countries had lost everything and needed help to restart their Scouting programs. In response to these Scouts’ needs, the BSA established a fund called World Friendship Fund. Since then more than $11 million has been donated by American Scouts and leaders eager to support worldwide Scouting in a personal way. 4 World Friendship Fund What is the WFF? Part of history
5/12/2018 3:15 PM What is the WFF? Part of history A service project An international Scouting activity All Scouts at BSA and around the world learn and agree to live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law, regardless of the program in which they participate. Core to the Scout Oath is the charge that a Scout “help other people at all times” and that when living by the Scout Law he or she is to be “helpful” at all times. When units participate, Scouts and leaders become a part of a worldwide Good Turn. They develop an awareness of and a concern for the Scouting needs of others. World brotherhood through Scouting is realized when Scouts and leaders care and share. World Friendship Fund © 2007 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. 6 World Friendship Fund How to support WFF? Scouts’ own service
5/12/2018 3:15 PM How to support WFF? Scouts’ own service Unit, district and Council events World Brotherhood night Annual Collections One very popular way that the WFF is supported is through gifts from summer camps, training sessions and money collected during Scouts’ own services. Collections can be organized during, roundtable meetings, den and pack meetings, summer camping programs, blue and gold banquets, camporees, or any other Scout activity. It can also be fun to host a World Brotherhood night to collect funds. Scouts research a Scout association in a different country and share that information—even play games and eat food from the country they learned about. Every year the Scout Shops hold an annual collection encouraging all Scouts to give a dollar. World Friendship Fund © 2007 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. 13 United States Fund for International Scouting
5/12/2018 3:15 PM United States Fund for International Scouting Where do WFF funds go? USFIS grant requests USFIS Committee NSO & WOSM Regional approval You might be wondering where all of these collected WFFs go? Any WOSM recognized NSO can submit a USFIS grant request for projects to enhance their growing organization. The United Stated Fund for International Scouting (USFIS) is a subcommittee appointed by the National International Committee. They meet every February, May and Ootober to review submitted grant proposals and vote on their approval. Before a grant can make it to the USFIS for review it must be approved by the NSO’s International Commissioner or Chief Scout and them must be submitted to their WOSM Region where it must be approved by their Regional Director. 14 United States Fund for International Scouting
5/12/2018 3:15 PM United States Fund for International Scouting Large Percentage of scouts Approved grants must validate appropriations of funds It is the goal of the USFIS to reach as many scouts as possible with the WFF contributions therefore, they seek to only approve grants that assist a large percentage of the Scouts in the NSO and projects that affect the welfare and enhancement of Scouting. Once a grant has final approval from the USFIS to receive the funds they requested, the NSO must validate the appropriations of these funds toward their proposed enhancement projects. 15 World Friendship Fund What is not supported?
5/12/2018 3:15 PM What is not supported? Units cannot request specific fund distribution Unrecognized scouts or international projects Individual groups’ funds CANNOT be sent to a Scout association based on that groups’ interest in that Scout association. For example if a scout raises funds for the WFF he cannot request that these funds be sent to a specific Scout association for disaster relief. If a Scout wants to help a specific Scout cause, it is a great opportunity for that Scout to inform the NSO about the grant proposal process WFF funds will not go to unrecognized Scouting programs or other non-Scouting international development projects. If an unrecognized Scout organization submitted a grant request we would encourage them to become members of WOSM so they could share in our Scouting Brotherhood.
