1681 Denis Papin develops the first safety valve for a degister
1856 John Ramsbottom invented a spring loaded safety valve
1866 The „Dampfkessel-Revisions-Verein“ (steam boiler inspection society) and later TÜV was founded in Germany
1880 Foundation of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
1919 Foundation of the National Board (NB) of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors
1924 ASME Code for unfired pressure vessels
1997 Pressure Equipment Directive PED 97/23 was published in order to harmonize the different European standards for pressure vessels
