2 PURPOSE OF PROGRAMME To ensure that the Department:
Timeously places the right people in the right jobs Has the appropriate IT tools and systems to facilitate information flow and knowledge management Provides a conducive, healthy and safe working environment Complies with the relevant legislation, regulations and adequately manages risk Is communicating with all its partners/stakeholders, both internally and externally.

3 AIM The Corporate Affairs Branch (CA) seeks to provide a high quality strategic corporate support that enables the DEAT to improve its capacity to protect and conserve the environment and promote tourism.

5 PROGRAMMES The programme has the following four sub-programmes:
Legal Services provides legal support and coordinates legislative reform initiatives in the department Communications facilitates internal and external communications activities of the department ICT & Facilities Management provides IT, security, administrative and facilities support services Human Resource & Transformation coordinates the management of human resources and transformation strategies

Provide corporate legal advice Manage litigation Facilitate compliance with PAIA & PAJA Conduct legal education workshops Facilitate law reform process (ICM Bill, Waste Management Bill & NEMA ) Facilitate meetings of the Law Reform Working Group Subcommittee under the Committee for Environmental Coordination (CEC)

8 COMMUNICATIONS Develop one integrated communications plan for the Environment & Tourism Sector Partake in four intergovernmental communications strategies Report on customer satisfaction survey Evaluate and improve media profile and share of voice on community radio Conduct stakeholder session per sector Implement the DEAT Brand Strategy Coordinate integration of DEAT call centers and websites for efficient communication

9 ICT & Facilities Management
Analysis and report on DEAT existing business processes Optimize priority processes for faster turn around times Implement Master Systems Plan Manage IT based documentation and administrative systems Facilitate Treasury approvals for new DEAT Building

10 Human Resource & Transformation
Facilitate & report on EE plan implementation Reduce vacancy rate from 34% to 20% Reduce turn over rate from 25% to 14% Implement employee wellness programme Facilitate skills development and career - pathing for scarce skills Facilitate learnerships, internships and grant bursaries in the Environment & Tourism Sector

11 2007/8 PRIORITIES Facilitate promulgation of Integrated Coastal Management Bill, Waste Management Bill & NEMA amendments Implement DEAT Brand strategy Implement stakeholder relations strategy Implement MSP for better service delivery Seek Treasury approvals for DEAT new building Facilitate employment of people with disabilities Implement Workplace Skills Plan Coordinate initiatives to reduce staff turn over and vacancy rate
