Established in 1934. There are 29 Departments. With 160 faculty members. 70 administrative and support staff. Student strength of about 2700 With ranks 113 ranks (2012) in the University.

Infrastructure Creation and up-gradation of infrastructure under the College with Potential for Excellence (University Grants Commission, GOI.) STAR College Scheme of Department of Biotechnology, GOI. UGC grant for up-gradation of science laboratories and classrooms. Bioinformatics Facility: funded by the Department of Biotechnology, GOI.

Infrastructure Institutional Biotech Hub: funded by the Department of Biotechnology, GOI. Cancer Biology and Tumour Immunology Research Laboratory, Department of Biotechnology. Genetics Research Laboratory, Department of Zoology. Nano-chemistry research laboratory, Department of Chemistry.

Infrastructure Language Laboratory. Mama Margaret Hall (New Girls Hostel) 120 students. Campus with Wi-Fi and leased line connectivity .

Teaching, Learning & Evaluation Training in communication using Language Laboratory. Organized exhibitions, seminars, workshops, concerts, etc. Lecture Series organized by various departments. ISCA centenary lectures. International Year of Chemistry Lectures (UGC). Visiting faculty from international universities (Vienna University, Austria ; Appalachian College, USA; College of Wooster, USA.) Faculty attended national and international symposia.

Teaching, Learning & Evaluation Faculty members as resource persons. Visiting fellows to university/colleges (College of Wooster, Ohio, USA; Universitat Koblenz-Landau, Germany; University of Nizwa, Sultanate of Oman) Members of BUGS of Various subjects, Syllabus committees, paper setters and examiners. Faculty member attend UGC-sponsored orientation and refresher courses.

Extensions Activities Training for fish farmers and entrepreneurs in laboratory and the field. Adoption of Villages at Ri-Bhoi District, for fish farming, sponsored by DST, GOI. Training and promoting Basic Science in rural schools.
