1 IDENTIFY YOU ILLUSTRATION I 2012/2013

2 THE THEME “Identify You”, is the theme of Illustration Subject for this Odd Semester 2012/2013 The term Identify based on the fact that every person need to find their meanings in their lives. So as, this subject or the study is ment to make students find their knowledge in some matters that related to the theme, as well as mastering the technique due to experience in medium and the tools.

3 THE THEME The word You, emphasize that every person (to this matter is the students) will find the truth about themselves. From the moment they met the problem, their minds fly to catch pieces of options. Finding knowledge about environment, culture, legend, imagination, and so on. Reveal the answer by expressing passionately the idea of working with certain medium and the tools that go along with it.

4 THE MATTERS The matters in this semester are related to everyday lives, which is very common. But, common sometimes mean that these matters are not part of action. So, bring them up to the surface, can indicate that certain matters, however unusual or unthinkable, are possibilities to make good or even great design works.

5 THE MATTERS History, urban legend, psichology, family, culture are matters that are usual in life. Stories that have been told in a long time, event that have been happened and retold from time to time. Experiences by someone or by themselves, even custom or tradition that emerge as process of adaptation to the times. By studying these, students can find information, knowledge, or rumors among the events.

6 THE GOAL To study means that every aspects are possibilities to look at or to begin with. Then, the process will begin..... The first goal is to find understanding The second goal is to experience The third goal is to be creative By Learning Absorbing Working

7 When they get together, they look very happy.
Once upon a time... There is a beautiful garden outside a beatiful home. It belongs to a kind mother who has two children. The older is a daughter, who is also kind and cheery. And, the youngest is a boy, who even very active but has a very nice smile. In the garden there are many flowers, such as roses, hyacint, and chrisant. And they have a lazy but grumpy old cat. When they get together, they look very happy.

8 THE SUBJECT When reading the sentences, our mind tells that it is a beginning of a story. About a happy family, consists of a mother, a daughter and a son, who lives in a house which have gardens, and also a cat. But, when the mind tells us to bring that story into a drawing, then there comes the problems. What will the mother looks like? Where does she come from? What age will the mother be? What about the daughter and the son, what will they look like? And the house, the cat, the garden? So many question, yet so little information.

9 THE SUBJECT Then we realize that some sentences can be meaningless without picturing them in a good piece of work. A good story encourage to imagining it in a good way. Imagine means to relate it to other information that enrich them, which becoming one good conclusion or good finding. But, what about acquiescent among the readers? One can have different view with the other. This is when illustration can be meaningful.

10 THE SUBJECT Simply, illustration can be describe as a picture that accompany the texts. So illustration must get along with the texts, must explain sentences with picture. But, in a more elaborate way, illustration has function in describing things that happen in society. The word function indicates that illustration is not merely a free action, but rather bound to the matter that make them emerge.

1# The function of describing things in a straight or accurate way Some matters need to be explain in an accurate depiction, such as the subject matter of physics, biology or medical. Accurate means that there are no possibility of interpreting it in different perspective. This, requires such a good skill, accuracy, and persistent

13 The function of social matters
2# The function of social matters Indicates that one of illustration function is to give certain meanings for activity in society. The need for information about development in technology, changing in cultural value, economic and political movement, even chaotic events. The urge in pursuing society to change are matters that can be done with the work of illustration.

14 The function of expressing ideas
3# The function of expressing ideas This is when illustration become imaginary meaningful, communicating ideas that never occur in one’s mind. Creating ideas in expressive way, with passionate sense and touch one’s heart. That, the great achievement of all.

15 So the journey begins... Have a good sense of humor, fun to be and work with, and do create a beautiful, fierceful, enchanting, competing work of illustration
