Jeffrey dahmer “The Milwaukee Cannibal” “The only motive that there ever was was to completely control a person; a person I found physically attractive. And keep them with me as long as possible, even if that mean just keeping part of them.”

2 Background Born on May 21, 1960 in West Allis, WI.
He later moved to Doylestown, OH in 1966 and Bath, OH in 1968 Jeffrey’s father was never home (at work) and when he was, Jeffrey’s mother demanded his attention His mother was ill and often in bed As a child, Jeffrey would collect insects and put them into jars- He later moved to dissembling dead animals and putting their parts into jars He attended Revere High School in Bath, Ohio Was known to drink alcohol before, during, and after school. “Doing the Dahmer”= pranks he did for attention His parents divorced in 1977, which led to his drinking problem worsening Dropped put of The Ohio State University after one quarter term Enlisted in US Army in December 1978 and was sent to Germany, but was discharged in 1981 due to drinking issues In 1981 he moved in with his grandma in West Allis, WI, where he committed most of his crimes.

3 My Dad and Dahmer: Relationship:
Friend of a coworker (Class of ‘80 and ‘78) My dad and coworker decided to go out after work one night and to my dad’s surprise, Dahmer had been invited and was in the car Normal- nothing suspicious although my dad never really liked Dahmer (annoying) Social Status/ Assumptions: Trouble maker, but not a bully Would often misbehave in class or public for attention (“Doing the Dahmer”) Was bullied everyday and never fought back (ex: books knocked down, head in toilet) Had “outcasts” as friends Frequently smoked marijuana and drank alcohol Bridget= his girlfriend Wasn’t very involved in school (no clubs or sports except band and tennis for a little while)

Necrophilia- sexual attraction or act involving corpses CRIME DATE VICTIM PUNISHMENT Murder, necrophilia, dismemberment June 18th, 1978 Steven Marks Hicks (19) Later sentenced 15 life terms Sexual exploitation and second degree sexual assault September 1988 13-year old Laotian boy *one year in prison and 5 years probation *worked during day and returned to jail at night *only served 10 months of sentence Dismemberment and murder March 25th, 1989 Anthony Sears (26) July 19th, 1991 Joseph Bradehoft (25) Dismemberment- removing of limbs Cannibalism- eating the flesh or internal organs of other human beings Dahmer killed 17 males total between

5 Most recent crime July 22nd,1991 - Milwaukee, WI.
Tracy Edwards survived an attack by Dahmer and flagged down a police car after his escape. Police found Polaroid pictures of victims Heads found in the refrigerator Human heart in freezer 57-gallon drum of chemicals with decomposing bodies inside 7 skulls and other human remains discovered The potential murder weapon, Dahmer’s butcher knife, was also found

6 sentence Dahmer was sentenced to 15 life terms without parole on February 17th, 1992(and later 16 for a homicide in Ohio in 1978) He served his sentence at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin. Dahmer died on November 28, 1994 in prison- he was murdered by a fellow inmate, Christopher Scarver.

7 Social control theory Jeffrey had no attachment to others since his parents paid him no attention. Jeffrey had a really rough time and especially disconnected with people after his parents’ divorce in Since he had no positive support or attention, few friends, and wasn’t very involved in school, Jeffrey had time to think about his crimes and act them out. He always craved attention and power.
