Three Independent Studies
Answers in Genesis and The American Research Group Barna Group 70% Defends Christianity Challenges against the Bible come in many forms. Challenges come from the cultist, from atheists, from religious people, and from the media. No matter what form the challenge takes, when the Christian can defend the faith effectively, it justifies Christianity to the non-believer. Strengthens believers The Bible teaches in Romans 1:19-20 that God has given us all the evidence we need for belief in a Creator and no one has an excuse for not believing. The Christian can use God’s evidences (His Creation, which includes all natural laws) to reassure believers, especially new believers who may harbor doubts, that their faith is grounded on objective truths that are confirmed by verifiable evidence. Makes the Bible relevant Although many of the current attacks against Christianity are the same as those that confronted the early church, each generation has its own set of particular challenges. Today one of the main attacks comes from the teaching of evolution. Apologetics provides the resources we need to meet this challenge head-on. Glorifies God The foremost purpose of apologetics is to bring glory to God. By defending the truths of God, we defend His honor and name. Helps believers evangelize the lost Apologetics involves more than just defending Christianity against skeptics and critics. It involves being capable of challenging the truth-claims of other worldviews. In 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 Christians are mandated to do three things: Bring down all imaginations and everything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God Bring all opposing thoughts into captivity and to the obedience of Christ Demonstrates obedience Nehemiah Institute

Don Bierle (Ph.D., Life Sciences), Surprised by Faith, 1992, p. 2.
“At that time [14 years old], and during the subsequent few years, I did not see the church as a source of answers…. During this time I mentally either discarded or challenged much of traditional Christian teaching about the Bible, creation, Jesus Christ and salvation. I was asking ‘why,’ and could not find answers.”

“It seems atheists have developed a comprehensive strategy to win the minds of the next generation.
The strategy can be described simply: let the religious people breed them, and we will educate them to despise their parents' beliefs…. In fact, it is to a large degree orchestrated by teachers and professors to promote anti-religious agendas.” The objective of science education, according to biologist Richard Lewontin, “is not to provide the public with knowledge of how far it is to the nearest star and what genes are made of.” Rather, “the problem is to get them to reject irrational and supernatural explanations of the world, the demons that exist only in their imaginations, and to accept a social and intellectual apparatus, science, as the only begetter of truth.” How is all this to be achieved? The answer is simple: through indoctrination in the schools. Dinesh D'Souza The atheist indoctrination project

Northern Arizona University
Freshman honors class “American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America”. Chris Hedges (graduate of Harvard Divinity School, American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner) Personal to me FYI - My daughter's freshman honors class at Northern Arizona University is "discussing" a book by Chris Hedges called "American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America". The whole purpose of the class appears to be Christian bashing. - i.e. let's get these freshman in line with our ideology right off the bat and let those "others" know what their place is. One girl in her class made the comment, after several class discussions, "I didn't know Christians were so bad." Mission accomplished, huh? Hedges challenges the Christian Right's religious legitimacy and argues that at its core it is a mass movement fueled by unbridled nationalism and a hatred for the open society. according to Hedges, ‘Genesis was not written to explain the process of creation, of which these writers knew nothing. It was written to help explain the purpose of creation...to help us grasp a spiritual truth, not a scientific or historical fact. The whole purpose of the class appears to be Christian bashing One girl in her class made the comment, after several class discussions, "I didn't know Christians were so bad."
18
“Followers [Evangelical Christians] in the movement are locked within closed systems of information and indoctrination that cater to their hates and prejudices.” “Most of America’s fundamentalist and evangelical churches are led by pastors who peddle this non-reality belief system, one that embraces magic, the fiction of a ‘Christian nation’…”. Page 27 of the book “American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America”. Hedges equates evangelical Christians to the young fascist movements in Italy and Germany in the 1920s and ‘30s.
19
“I didn't know Christians were so bad.”
Comment from a student who attended the class: “I didn't know Christians were so bad.” The teacher has done his job
20
Comment from the mother of a student:
“Don't Christians realize what their children will be up against? And if they do, why aren't they preparing their children for these battles?”

The Great Deceiver John 8:44b
… he [the Devil] was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. Gen 3: 1-5 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Satan’s first lie was a half-truth (Gen 3:4-5)

Question Will the church, Christian schools, Christian universities, and parents ever decide to combat/fix this problem? STOP PLAYING CHURCH

Mission Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen Matthew 28:19-20 To do this we must maintain a biblical worldview Mat 22:37 heart, soul and mind John 17:17 sanctified by His Word (the Bible must be our authority) Rom 12:2 Renew our minds Then 2 Tim 2:15 study to show ourselves approved 2 Tim 2:2 make disciples

Great Commission It is the last recorded personal instruction given by Jesus to His disciples. It is a special calling from Jesus Christ to all His followers to take specific action while on this earth. There are four words that explain what Jesus is telling us to do. To do this we must maintain a biblical worldview Mat 22:37 heart, soul and mind John 17:17 sanctified by His Word (the Bible must be our authority) Rom 12:2 Renew our minds Then 2 Tim 2:15 study to show ourselves approved 2 Tim 2:2 make disciples

27
We must understand and teach the complete Gospel message to be able to fulfill our mission.
Gal 1:6-9 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. Know the Gospel Share the Gospel Defend the Gospel

Foundation for the Gospel Literal Interpretation
The Fall (Sin) Creation 6 Days (Perfect) Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.

Foundation for the Gospel Millions of Years
The Fall (Sin) Creation Adam Eve Millions of Years ? Death Before Sin Ting Wang (Ph.D. Biblical Studies and Hebrew Scholar) “Often, people will use the old argument that we should concentrate on preaching the Gospel, rather than get distracted by ‘side-issues’ such as Creation. But if we cannot believe the record of Creation, then why believe the record of the New Creation (‘if anyone is in Christ, he is a New Creation; the old is gone, the new has come!’) – 2 Corinthians 5:17?” Ting Wang (Ph.D. Biblical Studies and Hebrew Scholar), “Hebrew Scholar Affirms That Genesis Means What It Says!”, Creation, Sep-Nov, 2005. Brandon van der Ventel, Ph.D. Physics “If the story of the fall of Man is ‘mythology’ then there is no need for a plan of salvation.” Brandon van der Ventel, Ph.D. Physics, “Nuclear Scientist Shares His Creation Faith”, Creation, Vol. 34, No. 4, 2012. John MacArthur sums up what we have been saying “So in an important sense, everything Scripture says about our salvation through Jesus Christ hinges on the literal truth of what Genesis 1-3 teachers about Adam’s creation and fall.” John MacArthur (Ph.D.), Think Biblically!, 2003, p.62. Jeffry Tompkins, Ph.D. Genetics. “It seemed obvious to me that if I accepted the New Testament message of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection that I must also accept the biblical revelation regarding six-day creation. Especially since Jesus himself cited Genesis 1 and 2 in declaring that man was created ‘from the beginning of creation’”. Jeffry Tompkins, Ph.D. Genetics, “Geneticist Praises The Creator”, Creation, Vol. 38 No. 4, 2016.

Understanding the Gospel
Our Response Attack Jesus Christ God’s Solution The Foundation The Bible’s History (Time) Man’s Rebellion (Sin) Until the church understands this and teaches it, we will continue to lose 70%. God’s Perfect Creation Genesis 1:31
37
The Battle for Foundations
Mattill, A. J., Jr., “Three Cheers for the Creationists,” Free Inquiry, vol. 2 (Spring 1982). “And the creationists have also shown irrefutably that those liberal and neo-orthodox Christians who regard the creation stories as myths or allegories are undermining the rest of Scripture, This slide helps establish who understands the battle – it is mostly not the church, but the atheist. continued
38
for if there was no Adam, there was no fall; and if there was no fall there was no hell; and if there was no hell, there was no need of Jesus as Second Adam and Incarnate Savior, crucified and risen. As a result, the whole biblical system of salvation collapses. . . Evolution thus becomes the most potent weapon for destroying the Christian faith.” The atheists understand that they do not have to directly attack the whole Bible or the Gospel. They know that if they attack the foundation (where the church is weak) the rest of Scripture also crumbles. Mattill, A. J., Jr., “Three Cheers for the Creationists,” Free Inquiry, vol. 2 (Spring 1982).
39
Jim Wilson (U. S. Naval Academy, Korean War, Director of Community Christian Ministries & Evangelism), Principles of War: A Handbook on Strategic Evangelism, 1991, p. 7. “In the study of warfare, great men have concluded that there are some overriding principles that, if followed, will always tend toward success in battle, and if neglected or ignored, will tend toward defeat or even destruction.” This above statement is also true in spiritual warfare. We have the tools to fight this battle, however, we lack the training. What is needed is a plan of action that can implemented using pastors, educators, and parents, and youth leaders
40
Ineffective Solutions
Bigger churches More music that caters to the youth More entertainment More youth mission trips More “relationship” building Bigger youth groups More Sunday school classes Become more seeker friendly
41
The Plan of Action 2 Timothy 2:2
And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. We don’t need hundreds of millions of dollars - $200,000/year
42
Train the next generation to stand firm.
The Plan of Action Increase the number of teachers who can teach creation and apologetics. Train the next generation to stand firm. We need to infiltrate our own Christian universities and churches with teachers We need to make sure our students Know the Gospel Can share the Gospel Can defend the Gospel Paule was appointed to defend the Gospel Know the Gospel Share the Gospel Defend the Gospel
43
The Plan of Action What do youth need to know to become better evangelist in a world that is hostile to the Bible (The BIG Five)? Become doers of the Word (Application Training) We need to infiltrate our own Christian universities and churches with teachers We need to make sure our students Know the Gospel Can share the Gospel Can defend the Gospel Paule was appointed to defend the Gospel
44
The BIG FIVE What Youth Need to Know
How to think biblically (worldview). How to think critically and analyze statements and challenges. How to refute evolutionism. How to respond to the claims of moral relativists. How to recognize and respond to biblical compromise. If I can take an 8th grader to take a computer apart and put it back together again, then they can learn the riches of God’s Word.
45
Know, Share, and Defend the Gospel
Application Training The ultimate test of teaching is not what you do as the teacher or how well you do it, but what can the student do or perform at the end of the training. Know, Share, and Defend the Gospel If I can take an 8th grader to take a computer apart and put it back together again, then they can learn the riches of God’s Word. Can they apply what they have learned – know, share, defend
46
Biblical Worldview Training
Colossians 2:3 God exists and His Word is true Matthew 22:37 Romans 12:2 John 17:17 Scripture is the authority in all matters The Gospel (Know, Share, Defend) “Non-biblical worldview ideas don’t just sit in a book somewhere waiting for people to examine them. They bombard us constantly from television, film, music, newspapers, magazine, books and academia.” Del Tackett, “Why Is a Christian Worldview Important?” If we don’t really believe and live the truth of God, then our witness will be confusing and misleading. Most of us go through life not recognizing that our personal worldviews have been deeply affected by the world. (Col 2:3, 8 – all wisdom and knowledge…) Col 2:3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Col 2:8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.
47
Apologetics 1 Peter 3:15 (Ready answer always)
Jude 3 (Contend for the faith) 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (Strongholds) Colossians 4:6 (Know how to answer) Col 4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
48
Practical Apologetics Training
Who did Cain marry? Was there really a worldwide flood? How could Adam name all the animals in one day? How do you fit the dinosaurs into the Bible? How could all the creatures fit on the Ark? How could the first three days of creation be literal days if the sun was not created until day 4?
49
Practical Apologetics
2 Peter 3:8 (a day like a thousand years) Day-age theory Gap theory Genesis 2:4 (“in the day”) Genesis is written in Hebrew poetic format The creation account is not real history Plant death before sin Modern science proves the earth is old
50
Critical Thinking Skills Training
Typical method: Focus on the evidence Critical thinking: Focus on analyzing the statement (words used) Make the non-believer accountable for his/her statements. Evolution is a fact Creation is true A short lesson Instead of focusing on the comparison of evidence between creation and evolution, we can focus on analyzing the evolutionist’ argument and making them accountable for their statements.
51
Three Critical Thinking Questions
How do you know it is true? Has it ever been observed? Are you making any assumptions? Recognize Assumptions THINK It’s not illegal yet
52
A Power Question Show me any observational evidence for evolution that does not require me to use faith.
53
Science Foundations Training
Where did the Universe come from? How did life originate? Where did dinosaurs come from? What are the assumptions in the dating methods? What is the foundation for the fossil record (Cambrian explosion)?
54
Presuppositional Apologetics Training
Who made God? Show me any evidence for the existence of God? How can you call God good when He allows evil to continue? Why are Christians so intolerant? That’s true for you, but not for me.
55
