9. Station 3- Spirituals and Contemporary Connections
Read “Go Down Moses” and “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” on pages
Find a contemporary song that speaks about the theme of oppression or the search for salvation/escape.
Copy the song title, artist, and lyrics on one side of the page before answering the following questions on the back:
Specifically, how does your group’s song choice connect to the ideas explored in both spirituals?
What specific lines discuss oppression or salvation/escape? Make this connection clear in your response.
Why did your group choose this song? Why is it an important song that speaks to our times?
