EFA News Calendar of EFA Activities Online Database Contacts for EFA Regional network Background information on EFA The regional website contains NEWS about activities, events and EFA-related developments in the region and beyond. It also contains a calendar of events and international days, an online database and contacts for the EFA network in the region. This website is a very good resource for journalists seeking to be updated about EFA and education-related news and developments in the region.

4 EFA Global Monitoring Report
Gender Quality Literacy Another good source of education statistics is the annual EFA Global Monitoring Report, an independent publication commissioned by UNESCO. It tracks how countries are progressing in meeting the six EFA goals with each annual edition focusing on a specific theme. Each report is released around October-November of the preceeding year.

2008 EFA Progress Report to 2015 The 2007 GMR focused on the first EFA goal of Early Childhood Care and Education. The 2008 report will focus on the overall assessment of progress to the 2015 goals. Strong foundations Early childhood care and education UNESCO Bangkok also organizes the annual regional launch of the Global Monitoring Report, usually in Bangkok. Press releases, fact sheets, report cards focused on the region are prepared by UNESCO Bangkok and distributed during the launch. 7 EFA and Education data UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS)
The UIS website is an important source of education data (on-line database) and special reports: Global Education Digest Regional education data reports Thematic reports (often in partnership with others), e.g. World Education Indicators / PISA reports with OECD; Out of School Children with UNICEF UIS Working Paper series Manuals, guides and technical documents The UIS is another source of EFA and education data. It has several annual publications and thematic reports related to education. Official UN data on education statistics can also be downloaded from the UIS website

10 Journalism Awards SEAMEO-Australia Press Award
recognizes excellent coverage of education issues by journalists in Southeast Asia. Given out annually since 2000, the Award has recognized seven print journalists who have written outstanding pieces on education issues affecting their countries and the region.

11 Journalism Awards UNICEF’s International Children’s Broadcasting Day Award (9 Dec) For both television and radio journalists to highlight youth voices concerning the state of the world and their place in it.  Participating broadcasters will be eligible to submit entries for the 2008 ICDB Award.
