3 COLLEGE ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
CAL STATE UNIV. (CSU) UNIV. OF CALIF. (UC) CP English yrs. Math (A1, G, A2 or M1, 2, 3) yrs. Lab Science (Life & Physical) yrs. Social Science (1 yr WC + USHist/Gov) 2 yrs. World Language yrs. CP Electives yr. Visual/Performing Arts yr. Must also submit SAT I or ACT scores BE SURE TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND “A-G” REQUIREMENTS. ALL COURSES MUST BE UC CERTIFIED (P) Same 3 yrs., 4 or more recommended 2 yrs., 3 rec. (must include 1 yr of chem. or physics) 2 yrs., 3 recommended Must submit SAT I or ACT. 7 Reporting SAT & ACT Scores
4 reports in cost of test: NCAA must have results – 9999 NAIA must have results – 9876 CSU system (all CSUs) code for SAT – 3594 UC system – send to one UC you’re applying to, all will have access Private/Independent/Out-of-State – send individually Some scholarships may require scores

8 NCAA & NAIA College Athletics
(National Collegiate Athletic Association) Required for Division I or II Clearinghouse Eligibility – check with your counselor Current and final transcripts will be required. YOU must submit AHC transcripts (done through AHC) NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Separate from NCAA Similar to NCAA but covers many smaller Christian colleges Westmont College is an NAIA school

24 CALCULATING YOUR G.P.A. Use the following guideline to determine your GPA that many colleges will use. This is especially true for the UC and CSU systems. Find your weighted and unweighted GPA Split the difference between the two GPA’s. Example: Weighted: 3.60 Unweighted: 3.00 Calculated GPA for colleges = 3.30 GPA is based on A-G courses from sophomore and junior years. Admission is based on A-G courses from all four years, including senior year.

No essays or Letters of Recommendation UC Students required to respond to 4 of 8 personal insight questions (maximum of 350 words for each) No Letters of Recommendation (*Berkeley exception) Extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, work, etc.) PRIVATE Will want essays and Letters of Recommendation

28 WHEN TO APPLY UC’s and CSU’s have November filing period
Deadline to submit application NOVEMBER 30 CSU’s begin accepting apps October 1 UC app is open now, can’t submit until November 1 Private/Independent/ Out-of-State vary A lot of schools have January 1 deadline but it is your responsibility to find out! Early Decision vs. Early Application

Do not use for UC or CSU Will need for Private Colleges & some scholarships Complete Letter of Recommendation Form (available on SYHS Guidance page – College Information and from English teacher and in Guidance Office) Always talk to person you ask for letter. See what they need from you. Give at least two weeks notice. Remember to thank those who help you!

35 THE COLLEGE COUNTDOWN October Gather info, prepare applications, complete PROFILE. For CSU’s, can send application. File FAFSA Request Letters of Recommendations if applying Early Application to private schools – check deadlines November Complete submission for UC and CSU (deadline is the 30th) November through February Submit private, out-of-state applications January- February Submit FAFSA (for those that haven’t done so) GPA Verification Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara deadline (15th)

37 IMPORTANT TIPS Letters of Recommendation – be prepared and plan ahead – two weeks notice No “cute” addresses Clean up your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts! Make copies of everything you send Get Certificate of Mailing if using snail mail Check your junk Check & double check dates and deadlines Most colleges communicate by and/or portal Write down passwords for each account!
