Elementary ELA Benchmarks and Curriculum
The North Bergen ELA Curriculum is comprised of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards which reflect the strong beliefs that: Students must be exposed to both Literature and informational (nonfiction) text within their learning; Background knowledge and motivation are critical to the success of students when learning to read and when accessing complex text; Research by students provides the opportunity to learn more about a subject; Using evidence remains a critical skill, allowing students to ground their thinking in the work of authors and experts in literature and in the content areas; Incorporating the use of technology for teaching and learning to enhance students' 21st Century skills
