6 Cache – Logan Partnership Cont.
Not simply Cache providing transportation for Logan. Logan purchased 8 buses, which were placed in the combined fleet. If they bus more students (growth in student population, grade configurations, change start times or boundaries) they must purchase the additional buses.

7 School Times All County School Bell Times are the same as they were prior to the partnership with Logan except that many county schools have added early release to their schedules.

9 Items That Determine Numbers of Students Being Bused
Number of available buses Grade configurations Length of day School locations

10 Bus Fleet Profile Logan regular ed. 6 Shop buses 8 Activity/field 15
Special needs Cache regular ed Total buses

11 Bus Fleet Profile (cont.)
Buses with more than 300,000 miles – 12 Buses with more than 200,000 miles – 58 Buses with more than 100,000 miles – 35 Buses with less than 100,000 miles – 20 We are the only district in the state to have standard transmission buses in the fleet. Our oldest school buses are model year 1989 We need to purchase around 7 per year to maintain a 20 year rotation. We are currently purchasing 4 per year.

12 B. Grade Configurations
The fewer number of grades attending a school, means the boundary of the school has to be larger to gather enough students to fill the school. The greater number of grades attending a school, means the boundary of the school can be smaller to gather enough students to fill the school.

13 (b.) 2 Grades inside walk boundary

14 (b.) 3 Grades inside walk boundary

15 (b.) Grade Configurations, cont.
In the North end of the district, some students attended 5 schools for: K-2, 3-5, 6-7, 8-9, and Our schools are all now: K-5, 6-7, 8-9, Moving to this standard grade configuration has reduced the number of buses needed in the North end Elementary schools. Those buses have simply been moved to accommodate the need for additional buses to address high growth communities. In general principle, adding more grades to schools would allow us to use existing buses to address high growth areas without having to purchase additional buses at an unsustainable rate.

16 C. Length of School Day Current length of school days
(Monday thru Thursday) Elementary Schools 6 hrs. 20 min. 6-7 Grade Schools 6 hrs. 40 min. 8-9 Grade Schools 6 hrs. 45 min. High Schools 6 hrs. 45 min.

17 D. School Locations Schools in larger population centers reduces the need for busing. For example: North Cache, whose school boundary is the entire north end of the valley, is located in the 4th largest community in the north, requiring us to bus students from 3 larger communities to the smaller community.

18 (d.) Bus Student Percentages

School Bus Safety Record According to the National Safety Council in 1996, here is a comparative chart showing the risk of death to a passenger in the following transportation modes. This study was conducted in the United States in 1994 on the transportation death rate per 100 million passenger miles traveled. ( Dr. Cal LeMon, Unreported Miracles) Passenger automobiles 0.86 (school bus is 172 times safer) Railroad passenger trains 0.04 (school bus is 8 times safer) Scheduled airlines Transit buses 0.02 (school bus is 4 times safer) Intercity buses School buses Less than 0.005
