2 ...so what is CoCoRaHS? Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network A nationwide network of volunteer observers who measure precipitation

3 27 states currently part of network
Adding at least 9 more by end of 2008 Started in 1998 after devastating flood in Ft. Collins, CO

Very high density network Precipitation only

11 What does a CoCoRaHS observer do?
Uses standard 4” rain gauge Takes daily rainfall measurement each morning Enters data on CoCoRaHS website

12 What does a CoCoRaHS observer do?
May also measure snow depth and water content of snow

13 What does a CoCoRaHS observer do?
Observers may also submit special reports of heavy rain, snow and hail These reports go directly to the National Weather Service to help with storm and flash flood warnings
