2. Who are we talking about?
TRANSITIONAL AGE YOUTH

Currently homeless or at risk of homelessness
Subpopulations with diverse needs
LGBTQ Youth
Street Youth
Youth of Color
Former foster youth
Active drug users
Those with mental health issues
Travelers
Bay Area natives
Parenting TAY
And more
The reason I write out all the subpopulations is to demonstrate the diverse, unique, and complex needs of this population. While all homeless folks have unique situations, this group in particular due to their developmental stage in life has particularly diverse needs.

Attempting to continue to do more outreach to get involved with programs who work with homeless youth even though that might not be their primary mission or program work

70 units are apart of THP Plus- State funded housing program for youth aged out (21yr) or emancipated from foster Care. It is months.

Current – 117 total units
One CoC funded - 5th Street (44 units)
In the pipeline- 54 units
Lots of other support services programs not listed above but doing great work

Referral Agencies: balancing the idea of spreading out access between having too many agencies and then there are very little referrals made to a lot of places when in fact some agencies serve many more homeless youth and therefore need the resource more than other agencies

7. TAY Housing Evaluation

Purpose:
To evaluate how efficient and effective the City’s current system of housing and supportive services is when it comes to meeting the needs of TAY.
To determine how might the existing system of services be refined in order to better meet the needs of TAY.
Methodology:

Interviews
Report expected: Summer?

8. Role of the LHCB
Understanding what role youth programs play in the CoC
Keeping track of HUD polices that impact homeless youth and programs; Advocate
Support the voice of homeless youth
Actively engage youth service providers and mainstream institutions that work with youth
Be critical and ask questions
More federal focus on homeless youth by the Federal government:
Youth Counts; definition changes;
Statewide- expansion of THP Plus to include just homeless youth as the criterion
Locally- 93 units in the last 18 months; three buildings vs only one for the last ten years; TAY SF Plan; Units in the pipeline; TAY evaluation
