“The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished. Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord a man avoids evil.” Proverbs 16:5-6 NIV

4 “All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” Peter 5:5-6 NIV

5 What the SIN of Pride IS NOT all Pride is sinful
Being proud of your work or achievements is not sinful – Galatians 6:3-4 Being proud of others for their success is not sinful – Corinthians 5:11-12; 7:2-4; 8:24 We should not confuse Sinful Pride with self-respect or self-esteem or even self-love – Matthew 22:39

6 What the SIN of Pride IS The definition and description of sinful Pride Sinful Pride can be defined as the offensive exaggeration of one’s own importance – Romans 12:3; Galatians 6:3 Sinful Pride is manifested in many ways – conceit, . . . Sinful Pride is an enduring character trait, where as “feeling proud” is a transitory emotion

7 What the SIN of Pride can DO
It can give you a false sense of security The Bible says that “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” – Proverbs 16:18; Psalm 20:7-8 Being overly confident in Self can be dangerous – Corinthians 10:12, James 4:13-17

8 What the SIN of Pride can DO
It can keep you out of Heaven Jesus said “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.”– Matthew 5:3 Pride will keep a person from obeying the Gospel! – Acts 26:19-20, ; 2 Kings 5 Pride will keep a Christian from repenting – Romans 2:1-11

9 How to Overcome the SIN of Pride
Clothe yourself with Humility Humility is a learned trait! – 1 Peter 5:5-7; Colossians 3:12 Humility begins with a sense of subordination to God It knows it is dependant on God’s grace for all things! It does not feel entitled to a better life than others It is considerate of the interests of others – Phil 2:3-4 Humility knows it is fallible, and so welcomes advice

10 How to Overcome the SIN of Pride
Resist the devil and draw near to God Pride is the devil’s favorite tool! – James 5:6-10 The closer we move toward God the further we will be from the SIN of Pride!
