8 Jesus is the Saviour of the world –
not just Israel The Lamb of God…(1:29) God so loved…(3:16) Samaritans said, “He is…the Saviour of the world…(4:42)

9 Jesus is the Saviour of the world –
not just Israel He gives life to the world…(6:33) The Light of the world…(8:12) He bring(s) other sheep…(10:16)

10 Palm branches were one of the nationalistic symbols of Judea since the days of the Maccabees (circa 167 BC). They were used to celebrate military victories and awaken messianic hopes among the people.

11 “Hallel” themes (thanksgiving to God for
past deliverance – sung regularly at Passover) would be fresh in the minds of people. C.S. Keener

12 19 Then the Pharisees said to each other,
“You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after him!” 20 Now there were certain Greeks…

13 Mark 8:4 4 Then His disciples answered Him, “How can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?”

14 20 Now there were certain Greeks…
“God-fearers” * Gentiles who attended the Jewish synagogue, but had not yet converted

15 20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast

16

17 saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast. 21 Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him [kept asking], saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”

18 12 For there is no distinction between
Romans 10:12-13 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

19 John 6:37 37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.

20 23 But Jesus answered them, saying…
22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus. 23 But Jesus answered them, saying…

21 “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.

22 4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does
John 2:3-4 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.”

23 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless
a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.

24 There can be no glory without suffering No fruitful life without death
No victory without surrender The seed “dies” in order to fulfill its purpose W.W. Wiersbe

25 they “missed civilization.”
Some Christians visited a remote Christian mission station to see how the ministry was doing. As they watched the dedicated missionary team at work, they were impressed with their ministry, but admitted that they “missed civilization.”

26 “We haven’t buried ourselves,“ the missionary replied,
“You certainly have buried yourself out here!” one of the visitors exclaimed. “We haven’t buried ourselves,“ the missionary replied, “We were planted!”

27 25 He who loves his life will lose it,
and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

28 will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honour.
26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honour.

29 27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say?
‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify Your name.”

30 November 8, 2015 The Father does not expect us to be comfortable.
But He does expect us to be conformable

31 Then a voice came from heaven, saying,
“I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.” 29 Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”

32 PRINCIPLE God always gives a word of assurance to those who willingly suffer for His sake.

33 31 Now is the judgment of this world;
now the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” 33 This He said, signifying by what death He would die.

34 In the cross of Christ I glory, Towering o’er the wrecks of time; All the light of sacred story Gathers round its head sublime.

35 When the woes of life o’ertake me, Hopes deceive, and fears annoy, Never shall the cross forsake me, Lo! it glows with peace and joy.

36 When the sun of bliss is beaming Light and love upon my way, From the cross the radiance streaming Adds more luster to the day.

37 Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure, By the cross are sanctified; Peace is there that knows no measure, Joys that through all time abide.

38 34 The people answered Him, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’?
“We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; and how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”

39 “A little while longer the light is with you.
35 Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.

40 These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.
36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.

41 What Next? PRINCIPLES There can be no glory without suffering
No fruitful life without death No victory without surrender The seed “dies” in order to fulfill its purpose

42 What Next? PRINCIPLE God always gives a word of assurance to those who willingly suffer for His sake.

43 What Next? PRINCIPLE If we yield our lives and let God plant us, we will never be alone but will have the joy of being fruitful to the glory of God.

44 When engaged in worship In the details of everyday life
What Next? Seek Jesus When burdened with sin When engaged in worship In the details of everyday life In sorrows and sadness

45 When we reach our reward
What Next? Seek Jesus In the hour of death In suffering for Him When we reach our reward

46 Look and Live

47 I’ve a message from the Lord, Hallelujah
I’ve a message from the Lord, Hallelujah! The message unto you I’ll give; ’Tis recorded in His Word, Hallelujah! It is only that you “look and live.”

48 Look and live, O sinner, live, Look to Jesus now and live; ’Tis recorded in His Word, Hallelujah! It is only that you look and live.

49 Life is offered unto you, Hallelujah
Life is offered unto you, Hallelujah! Eternal life your soul shall have, If you only look to Him, Hallelujah! Look to Jesus Who alone can save.

50 Look and live, O sinner, live, Look to Jesus now and live; ’Tis recorded in His Word, Hallelujah! It is only that you look and live.

52 and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word. 2 Thessalonians. 2:16-17
