20 Texans Practice Various Faiths
In terms of religious affiliation, evangelical Protestants (Southern Baptists, Assemblies of God, etc.) are more numerous in Texas than they are nationally, 34 percent in Texas compared with 26 percent in the nation as a whole. Mainline Protestants (Presbyterians, Methodists, Episcopalians, etc.) are less numerous, 15 percent in Texas versus 18 percent nationally. At 24 percent, the presence of Catholics in Texas is the same as their presence nationwide. Finally, fewer Texans (12 percent) are religiously unaffiliated than are people in the nation as a whole (16 percent).
