Activity: Listen to the story I am about to read you. There will be 5 characters in the story. Your job is to rank the 5 characters from least offensive (1) to most offensive (5) based on their actions in the story. Discuss the story with your group and come to a GROUP consensus. 4. Sexual Abuse: Any sexual contact that is forced on a person against his or her will. -No minimum age -Always Illegal -Always a crime -Never the victim’s fault Examples: Inappropriate or forced talking, touching, kissing, fondling, or penetration.

7. Activity: Get into your groups and create 3 lists: All should have options for help for victims of sex abuse, but one should be for a child, one for a teenager and one for an adult.

8. Child: -Tell adult, teacher, parent… -Have adult call police Teenager: -Tell adult, teacher, parent, etc. -Call police Adult: Who’s job is it to teach children what sex abuse is? What about teenagers?

9. What happens if we don’t teach about it… We must stop sex abuse from happening, and especially from continuing! We need to make children aware of what is right and wrong!
But how do we do that? Ideas?

10. Activity: Imagine you are a parent sending your child into this scary world every day with sexual predators. Work with a partner to come up with a way to address sex abuse with a 1st or 2nd grader (6-8 yrs old).
Come up with a small “safety” card they can keep in their backpack that would allow a parent to know if sex abuse is happening.
Remember, most children wouldn’t know it is happening, so the idea is to have a way you can check as a parent without asking questions they may not understand.
Use key phrases, pictures, check boxes, etc.

16. What to do if you or someone you know is a victim of rape
-Tell someone you trust immediately.
-Notify the police immediately
-Do not shower, change clothes, etc.
-Get to a hospital emergency room for medical
attention. They will try to prevent any STI’s,
infections or pregnancy.
-Find a counselor, therapist, or support group.
Use the internet to find local support.

19. Sex Abuse Awareness Poster In your groups, you must create a poster raising awareness about sex abuse. The main idea of your poster is to prevent sex abuse from happening. You may want to consider these topics to get your message out: -Signs of Sex abuse -Actions to take to prevent sex abuse -Actions to take if you are a victim -Statistics or pictures This will be worth up to 25 points of extra credit and the posters will be hung around the school if approved by the office.
