1 Russian Revolution The Middle of wwi

2 Video of the Day

3 Bell Work 1-26-15 Name the 3 different kinds of imperialism.
What kind of government has a king? Who do you think is at fault for starting WWI?

4 During WWI Russia has a tsar (a king) named Nicholas II.
The country was very slow to industrialize because of its size. Slowly, Russia did industrialize and a middle class developed.

5 Issues of Industrialization
Russia ran low on resources because of the war. Many soldiers on the front line had no guns. Factories could not produce weapons quickly. Transportation was not getting weapons to soldiers on the front line fast enough.

6 Monarchy Issues Tsar Nicholas II went to support his troops.
He left his sister, Alexandra, in place. Alexandra relied on an illiterate monk for her problems.

7 Monarchy Issues The monk’s name was Rasputin.
War was bad, leadership was bad, economy was bad. He helped cure Alexandra’s son of an illness. Because Rasputin influenced Alexandra too much, Rasputin was killed. A total failure/collapse of the Monarchy then happened in March, 1917.

8 Tsar Nicholas II abdicates

9 Soviets Tsar Nicholas II left.
Russian leaders set up a temporary government to continue the war. Revolutionaries tired of Monarchy set up small councils called Soviets. They were made up of workers and soldiers

10 Bolsheviks A radical group took control of the Soviet councils.
Their leader was Vladimir Lenin As a young man, Lenin spread Marxist ideas to factory workers.

11 Lenin He was arrested and sent to Siberia, then Switzerland.
The Revolutionaries that would join him were called Bolsheviks. He planned to spread his ideas into a weak Russia. Why? Revolution relied heavily on proletariats (workers).

12 Lenin Returns from Exile
During 1917, The Germans help Lenin return home to Russia. Why? With the use of a train Lenin gets home and is met by many activists/supporters. “Long live the world wide Socialist Revolution!”

13 Lenin Returns home
