2 effete adj Worn out; barren Syn: Exhausted; spent Ant: Vital; vigorous The team returned to the locker room feeling effete from the disappointing first half of the game. The monotony of filling out TPS reports made the employee feel exhausted and effete.

3 bauble N A showy but useless thing
Syn: trinket; knicknack Ant: Purposeful The bauble on the tree was shiny and ornate. My grandmother has many baubles as she constantly collects little decorative items for her home.

4 nihilism N A total rejection of established laws
Syn: Anarchy; disorder Ant: Obedience The nihilist mocked the school dress code daily by wearing baggy shorts to school. People knew Jimmy practiced nihilism when he rejected his curfew and came home at 2am on a school night.

5 diaphanous adj Very sheer and light
Syn: transparent Ant: Opaque; thick The curtains were diaphanous, and the backyard could be seen through them. The diaphanous wings of the butterfly were extremely fragile.

6 Impediment N A barrier; obstruction
Syn: hindrance; obstacle Ant: Facilitation; support There are many impediments in life that we all must get through to be successful. The traffic was an impediment for my long trip home.
