Born June 11, 1910 in Saint-Andre-de-Cubzac, Gironde, France Had one brother, Pierre-Antoine Died June 25, 1997 in Paris, France

3 Jacques Cousteau – Exploration Achievements
Jacques started exploring in 1950 in the Red Sea. Then he produced films. He also was a conservationist, innovator, scientist, photographer, author and researcher who studied the sea and sea life in water. He was the co-inventor in 1942 with Emile Gagnon of the aqua lung which was a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus also known as SCUBA. This invention allowed people to dive under the water and swim and breath for long periods of time. He invented the first watertight 35mm still camera. He explored many places in the ocean in Easter Island, France, Portugal, Belize, Mexico, California, and the Antarctic.

6 Fun Facts Jacques’ grandson, Fabien, just spent a month living underwater in June 2014! He did it to carry on his family’s legacy and also launch science experiments on the nearby coral reef which his grandfather did in the Red Sea in 1950. He loved the ocean and wanted to be a fish! Jacques made many television shows for people to see his exploration films.
