2. 5 W’s of Keystones
Who?
Every student at North Penn has to take a Keystone exam in Literature, Biology, and Algebra 1 before he/she graduates.
What?
State mandated assessments used to assess student proficiency in the content areas of Literature, Algebra 1, and Biology.
When?
Spring Wave
Literature Monday, May 15th and Wednesday, May 17th
Algebra 1 Thursday, May 18th and Friday, May 19th
Biology Monday, May 22nd and Tuesday, May 23rd
Where?
9th period classrooms and other alternate locations; Your 9th period teacher will share which room you are supposed to go to for testing.
Why?
To ensure students can demonstrate proficiency in their math, science, reading and writing skills

3. Importance of the Test
Demonstrating proficiency in the Keystone areas is a requirement for the class of Proficiency is also required for the following senior year privileges: No School Period 1 or 8 Concurrent enrollment Career Study

5. Code of Conduct for Test Takers
DO…
Listen to, read, and follow all directions given.
Ask questions if you do not understand the directions.
Read each question carefully, especially multiple-choice items that ask for “best answer.” Also, be sure to read any open-ended items and writing prompts carefully before responding.
Be careful when marking your answers so that you do not skip spaces or fill in the wrong sections.
Make sure to completely fill in the bubble for the answer you select and erase completely any answers you change.

DO…
Keep your eyes on your own test.
Try to answer each test item.
Check that you have completed all the test items in the test section before closing your test booklet.
Report any suspected cheating to your teacher or principal.

DO NOT…
Bring notes with you to the test.
Bring any unapproved electronic devices (cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, kindles, etc.) other than an approved calculator, if applicable, to the test.
Share a calculator with others.
Use the bubbles in the answer booklet to either eliminate possible incorrect answers or possible correct answers. Mark only the bubble for the one correct answer you have chosen.

8. Code of Conduct for Test Takers
DO NOT…
Talk with others about questions on the test during or after the test. You may discuss testing process or issues of concern with your parents/guardians.
Take notes about the test to share with others.
Leave a testing session until the session is complete or until instructed to do so.

9. Calculator Policy
Calculators may be used on the Algebra 1 and Biology Exams.
Please bring in a calculator that you are familiar with for the Algebra 1 and Biology exams.
Memory must be cleared before and after each test session.
The following are NOT permitted for the exam:
Noncalculators such as cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, etc.
Calculators with infrared, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or other beaming or wireless capabilities
Calculators with keyboards
Calculators with built-in Computer Algebra Systems (CAS)
Calculators that make noise, have paper tape or need to be plugged in, or talk

10. TESTING BEHAVIOR/PROTOCOL
NO CELL PHONES/ELECTRONIC DEVICES ALLOWED
Before testing – You must have your cell phones and/or Smart watches off and place them in your bookbag, which will be placed in the front of the room. You must review and sign off on the Code of Conduct.
During testing – No electronic devices or outside materials (except calculator for Algebra 1 and Biology) are allowed.
After testing – You may read a book or magazine, but no textbooks or homework are allowed. You will get your cell phone, watch, etc. back at the end of the testing session.
Please be respectful of proctors and follow these state mandated directives. If students are caught with an electronic device during testing:
Administration/Security will be called.
Students will have to retake the test.
The cell phone/device will be confiscated
and disciplinary consequences will be given
(Yes, it is that serious!)
