Metals: lose valence electrons form cation (+ ion) Nonmetals: gain electrons form anion (- ion) Ionic: cation (+ ion) + anion (- ion)

Electrons Lost by Metal = Electrons Gained by Nonmetal Ions are formed (cation +)(anion -)

10 Polyatomic ions -They are NOT neutral, they have a charge (either + or -) - they are covalently bonded (made of nonmetals only) SO NH PO OH-
