3. MIG WELDING EQUIPMENT Understanding of MIG/MAG :
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is sometimes referred to as MIG or MAG
MIG = Metal Inert Gas
MAG = Metal Active Gas
MIG shielded gas is : argon, helium, and a mixture of argon and helium.
MAG shielded gas is : CO2, a mixture of argon, helium and CO2.

4. MIG WELDING EQUIPMENT Application :
MIG welding process is used for high alloy steels, aluminum, copper materials, as well as for nickel and nickel alloys.
MAG welding process is mainly used for welding unalloyed and low alloyed steels.

8. MIG WELDING EQUIPMENT
1. Power Supply The recommended machine for MIG welding is a rectifier or motor generator supplying direct current with normal limits of 200 to 350 amperes for all position welding.

10. MIG WELDING EQUIPMENT 2. Wire feeding mechanism
The wire feeding mechanism automatically drives the electrode wire from the wire spool to the gun and arc.
Control on the panel be adjusted to vary the wire feeding speed.
The wire feeder can be mounted on the power supply machine or can be separate from the welding machine.

For MIG and MAG welding the welding gun has the following functions :
Deliver the wire electrode
Conveying the welding current to the electrode through the contact tip.
Conducting the protective gas to the welding gun

The following shielding gases and gas mixtures are used :
pure argon
argon with 1%, 3% or 5% oxygen
mixed gases on the basis of argon-carbon dioxide
mixed gases on the basis of argon+CO2+O2
