1 PowerPoint 1 - Basic Ideas

2 PowerPoint: More than you think
Where to start? Keep your project in mind What is it you are trying to accomplish, and more importantly, who is your audience? Sketch out your idea on paper, or sketch it out slide-by-slide in PowerPoint

3 Important Issues Font issues File sizes
Similar to your experiences in Pagemaker and Photoshop; you may not have the typefaces at home that you’re using in the lab File sizes PowerPoint by nature tends to produce very large files Use compressed images and sound Be conservative with animation Do not embed sound into the PowerPoint itself; use techniques that allow PowerPoint to link to your sound files externally

4 Standard practices Tricks to keep you from performing re-work
Templates The slide master (vs. copying and pasting prior slides) Importing objects into the slide master and title master

5 Standard practices Importing objects Good practices
Do not import large bitmaps Be careful not to distort your objects once they are in PowerPoint; remember to use the shift key when scaling PowerPoint does not use layers per se, but you can move objects to the front and back of other objects Remember CRAP, especially when adding pictures to text KISS

6 PowerPoint Tools Drawing (you’ve seen this already)
Animation (use sparingly) Remember: PowerPoint is not a design tool Use Photoshop to design elements, then import them into PowerPoint Using .png for transparent images

7 Let’s Look at Some Examples
