2 The 1920’s America in the 1920’s experienced a lot of changes! More people lived in cities than farms, and the nation’s economic wealth more than doubled. People spent their money on goods like clothing and music. Urban culture was growing more and more popular, and rural, conservative, culture was fading away- That is how the 1920’s got its nickname- The “roaring 20’s”.

3 Fashion-Women Clothing became more casual and comfortable. Flappers
Dresses, hat, and short bobbed hair was popular. Closed-toe shoes called Mary Janes were worn often.

4 Fashion-Men -The “Jazz” age -Older men often wore 3- piece suits -hats
-Younger men wore wide- legged trousers

5 Music Jazz, Broadway Musicals Dances: “The Charleston”, The “fox trot”
Popular artists: Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong

6 Technology Radios Ford Model-T Silent Movies

7 “Slang” Terms “Atta Boy”= Good job! “Cheaters”= eyeglasses
“Dolled-up”= dressed up “Applesauce”= I don’t believe you (ex: That’s complete applesauce!) similar to modern day “Baloney”

8 Important Figures Henry Ford-automobile industry Babe Ruth- baseball
Louis Armstrong-Jazz musician Charlie Chaplin- film maker
