Tsuneo Oyama, Akihisa Tomori, Kinichi Hotta, Syuko Morita, Ken Kominato, Masaki Tanaka, Yoshinori Miyata  Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology  Volume 3, Issue 7, Pages S67-S70 (July 2005) DOI: /S (05) Copyright © 2005 American Gastroenterological Association Terms and Conditions

2 Figure 1 (A) The tip of the knife is bent at a right angle. The length of the hook is 1.3 mm and the length of the arm is 5 mm. The hook knife has a handle on the proximal side, and the direction of the hook can be controlled via the handle rotation. (B) The direction of the hook knife should be controlled parallel with the proper muscular (muscularis propria) layer to prevent perforation. 3 Figure 2 (A) Esophagoscopy reveals a large superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. (B) The hook knife grasped submucosal fibers. (C) Endoscopic images after ESD show a flat ulcer after ESD. There is neither perforation nor bleeding. (D) The resected specimen showed an iodine-unstained lesion. The cancer was 58 × 34 mm and the resected specimen was 65 × 48 mm.
