Medical Logistics Lesson Plan: Sea Transport LEARNING OBJECTIVE/S: By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Liner, charter and coastal transport Shipping markets and restrictions Decisions to be made when using container transport Benefits and restrictions of utilising river transport Structure Timing Activities Introduction 5 minutes Explain the flow of the session The shipping industry 15 minutes Lecture: types of vessels, nature of the industry – including container, coastal transport, barge transport, naval transport etc. Container transport Lecture: how the container shipping industry operates; key decision points and considerations for shipping by containers River Transport 10 minutes Lecture: introduce river transport through example of Myanmar and response to cyclone Nargis. Exercise Exercise: given data on vessels available on the river, identify the capability and limitations on your operation Lesson End/Plenary EVALUATION / RECAP QUESTIONS Adequate performance in exercises on choosing a vessel and identifying resulting operational capacity.
