2. Background and Methods
435,224 adolescents living with HIV in Kenya
Almost half of all new HIV infections are among youth
The Adolescent Package of Care (APOC) was introduced to provide standardized, targeted adolescent services to this priority population
Objectives: To assess use and impact of the adolescent checklist (as a proxy for APOC uptake) among adolescents in western Kenya on:
viral load (VL) suppression
family planning (FP) uptake
appointment adherence

3. Results and Conclusion
Results: Observed increased VL suppression and FP uptake after scale-up of the APOC
outcome were not associated with increased utilization of the adolescent checklist
Limitations:
Factors not ascertained by the checklist determined clinical outcomes
Possibly the checklist doesn’t represent what the providers/clinics actually do
Require better methods for tracking how adolescent services are provided, e.g. post-visit surveys
Conclusion: Further investigation for additional APOC elements are needed to assess full implementation and impact of APOC on adolescent health outcomes
