2. UNIT 7: AutoCAD Layers Panel
Basic Concepts with Layers
Fundamental tool for all drawings
Used to organize drawings
Used to control the visibility of objects. (i.e., for a building you would separate the foundation, walls, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.)
You can use as many layers as you want
You can only create geometry on current layer. That is the layer on top
Only one layer is current at a time

Ways to know what layer you are working in:
When you place the cursor over an object
In the Properties Panel when you select an object
In the Layer Panel of the Home tab

Select Layers Property Manager
Select New Layer Button
NOTE: Give layers logical names
NOTE: After you have entered a layer name you can press the Enter Key twice to keep entering layers

A Windows Layer with Magenta as layer color. Add two 30” windows to each office and four 30” windows to the conference area
Add additional furniture to offices and a conference table and chairs
Add Lighting Layer with Yellow as layer color. Add lights and wiring details
