Developed from up to date Best Practice benchmarks Assessed by the Organisation for Responsible Businesses Tailored for organisations employing up to 250 staff Supported nationally by the public and private sectors

3 What is a Responsible Business:
“One that operates efficiently and ethically; meets and exceeds legislation; and always considers its impact on people and the environment.” Includes SME’s, Social Enterprises, Charities and Community Interest Companies

4 Environmental and Social Responsibility Standards
Drivers: UK Companies Act 2006; UK Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 European Commission strategy for Corporate Social Responsibility Reporting Obligations for Corporate and Public sector New procurement standards for supply chain management Requires supply chain has consistent back-to-back standards The authority must consider— (a) how what is proposed to be procured might improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of the relevant area, and (b) how, in conducting the process of procurement, it might act with a view to securing that improvement.

An internal and external independently verified value system. Enhanced reputation, risk management, process improvement Supporting Quality Marks ISO 50001, 9001, 14001, 22301, 27001, IEMA Acorn, Low Carbon STEM, Fair Trade schemes Proof of consistent processes down the supply chain Evidence of social and environment standards for tender purposes

11 Choosing a local award or a Certified Quality Standard?
Both are mutually supportive AWARDS offer annual sector recognition for recent local achievements. Many apply and some are shortlisted Sector specialists are appointed to judge. STANDARDS are nationally recognised and independently CERTIFIED quality benchmarks for operational excellence. Operational processes are AUDITED by certified trained ASSESSORS. Standards require evidence of embedded competency for future sustainable success. All applicants can potentially achieve a Standard.
