This shows several modern blocks of flats as can be seen in many cities and towns around China today.

10 Description for reference:
This shows a traditional Chinese house in a siheyuan. This type of house has a long history in China and can still be seen everywhere. Houses are still built in this style, both in the countryside and in the cities.

Preferences living in a traditional house or in a block of flat Block of flats Traditional house The house is old. The rooms are small. The ceiling is (sometimes) high. The house is not (always) so comfortable. Sometimes there is no (own) toilet or bathroom. The house is very special. The building materials are nice. The house is very quiet. There are flowers and birds in the garden. There is a lot of contact with the neighbours. They know and help each other. The house is modern. The rooms are big. The ceiling is Iow. The house is comfortable (no water leaking in, no wind blowing through, good healing). Every house has a toilet and bathroom. All the houses are the same. The building material is not very beautiful. You often hear noise from the neighbours. To see flowers or birds, we have to go to a park. There is not much contact with the neighbours.

else), rooms of different sizes and having a garden.

16 People often have different preferences regarding building materials
People often have different preferences regarding building materials. Traditional materials are brick, wood, reed (thatched roof) and bamboo. Modem materials include concrete, glass and steel. A traditional house should not be confused with an old or bad house. A siheyuan can be fitted out with all modem conveniences.
