Welcome slide, 30 min talk with time for questions at the end. Introduce speaker ( at the end). Relevant to both PGT & PGR students.

Cover two main areas - cost of Tuition and what Funding options are available. Will spend more time on the latter because we know that funding a postgraduate degree is one of the key issues. Info for Scottish, other parts of the UK, EU or an international country but can’t cover all detail in short time so in summary: there are options available do research start early

Amount varies so check the individual programme page Typical cost postgraduate taught degrees : Most PGT degrees £16,000 - £19,500 (non-clinical) £23,350 MBA £34,850 (clinical) Figures taken from 2017 PGP but subject to change and may differ between programmes. 7 Fee Status UK / EU Applicants with ordinary residence in UK or the EU, with settled status in those areas, will normally be classed as UK / EU. Some exceptions may apply. Fee Status Enquiry Form Taken from Fee Status webpage. Because PG doesn’t split UK for fees (BUT does for support) its just 2 fee brackets – UK/EU or International. Typically students would need to have lived in the UK or EU 3 years before start of PG course to be considered UK/EU. UG study visas do not allow residency therefore this does not count as the 3 years!

10 PGT Funding There is no one route to fund any Postgraduate Taught degree Funding could come from: University Scholarships/Bursaries Loans University Graduate Schools Other funding bodies (e.g. charities/businesses) Introduction to PGT funding for both UK/EU and International students – with some examples of potential routes of funding. Only signposting, NOT a intricate list of everything available!

15 Adam Smith Business School Scholarships: UK & EU students
We have a wide range of Scholarships available across all Adam Smith Business School programmes, including: Awards for High Quality Applicants – full or partial fee waiver £10,000 MBA Scholarships available Welcome Award of £1000 for first 100 applicants who accept an offer, paid upon registration. No Academic criteria To highlight the amount of scholarships and opportunity for funding available in the ASBS. This slide is for UK/EU students. First point refers mainly to excellence scholarship. MBA awards available. HQA, usually a selected number only. Welcome Award is new. UK & EU, ASBS Programmes only.  First 100 offer accepters, not applicants, paid when they register. No academic criteria.

17 Loans Career Development Loans Government Postgraduate Loans*
Barclays & Co-op banks - up to £10,000, paid back AFTER completion of course Government Postgraduate Loans* Students Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) – Scots/EU Student Finance England (SFE) - English * Eligibility criteria apply for both Career Development Loans provided by two banks. Up to a value of £10,000, an amount can be agreed with the student and bank. These are bank loans but have a lower interest rate at payback (but higher than a student loan), it doesn't have to be paid back until after completion of study. Can be used for course fee and/or living costs. Eligibility criteria applies – contact the banks. SAAS Tuition fee (£5.5k) & Living Cost (£4.5k) loan totalling £10,000 (for Scottish students), Tuition Fee loan only for EU students. Amount added to any UG loans and eligibility criteria applies. Apply from April see SAAS site. If an EU student has have been a resident for more than 3 years they are entitled to both. Contact SAAS for more information and to confirm individual cases. SFE loan – complex in terms of eligibility, however for University of Glasgow this would only be available to English students, who do not have an integrated masters degree. Students must have an English address when they apply. EU students cannot use this loan in Scotland – Scots/EU students need to go to SAAS and NI & Welsh to their respective agencies.

Wide range of functions and we advise you look on these pages and contact for additional help. Explain also what a graduate school is to students who may not understand.

30 Finding a Supervisor You can search staff at the university by research interests to find those that align with your area. You can contact relevant staff to discuss the possibility of them supervising you. Make sure you let them know what type of research you would like to do, and explain your credentials – though this should not be a CV. Advice should still be sought from the Graduate Schools, and you would still need to make an official application.

There is funding but spend time exploring options Build a portfolio of funding from different sources Check for eligibility requirements, application procedures and deadlines and Graduate Schools excellent starting points whether a prospective PGT or PGR student Summary - there are lots of funding opportunities but they need to sought out – there is no one source of funding. Do early and check out Grad Schools and Scholarships database.
