3 Morning Message and Greeting
Each morning, students enter the classroom to find a note from me on the easel. The note will inform them of something special about our day. We use this message as a shared reading activity during which we practice our reading strategies and phonemic awareness. We also greet each other by name each morning. Research has shown that students are more comfortable in school and engaged in their learning when they have strong peer connections.

4 Reading I will meet with 2 guided reading groups each day. Mrs. Conte will also be working with reading groups 3x/week. We will start guided reading later in September, after I assess each student’s reading ability with the DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment). Reading Bags will come home each night and students will re-read their book(s) as part of their homework. While I am meeting with reading groups, other students will be working in Literacy, Math and Science Centers.
