1 Completing the Individual Career Plan
Explain to the students the significance of taking advantage of the resources that we provide for them. We will also be using the KuderNavigator website for resume development in the near future. It is also a great site for career research (which will be our purpose today), college and scholarship search, interview and cover letter tips, as well as having the ability to create and electronic portfolio within the site. Remind the students to keep their usernames and passwords! Mrs. Georgacopoulos

2 Today’s Purpose 1) Familiarize yourself with: & 2) Complete the Individual Career Plan form -The Individual Career Plan will be completed electronically and placed in their portfolios. -If the students have yet to register to the kudernavigator website with Mrs. Palicki, they can simply use the Google search engine to complete the question on the ICP form that requires kudernavigator for assistance. 3 What is the Individual Career Plan Form?
A document that maps out your future career path Using the 2 websites, you can research the options for each industry ((cluster) & learn about the many different career avenues (pathways) that are available to you within that field! (Example- Doctor vs. Chiropractor) Having a plan helps with goal achievement  -Employers like to see that you set goals, and have a clear direction for your future career path. -When we were in high school, we were not aware of the many different occupations that were available, besides the common Doctor, Lawyer, Teacher, Business Owner, etc. -Using to research the depth and variety that each industry has, is extremely beneficial. -The government has categorized every single occupation available into 16 main categories. Each category is then divided in to subcategories, which then are divided into individual jobs. Mrs. Georgacopoulos

4 Clusters & Pathways Defined
What are Career Clusters? Career Clusters are 16 different avenues, or fields of interest What are Career Pathways? Each cluster is then divided into specific sub-avenues of interest, or pathways What are Occupations/Career Specialties? Within each pathway, there are specific careers or occupations that fit in that particular category If you are teaching this in the LRC. The window next to the bathrooms have posters of the 16 career clusters. You can have a volunteer find the cluster that most likely will suit your particular program area. If you are teaching this class elsewhere, the 16 career clusters are listed below (and on slide 6) 1) Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources The production, processing, marketing, distribution, financing, and development of agricultural commodities and resources including food, fiber, wood products, natural resources, horticulture, and other plant and animal products/resources. 2) Architecture & Construction Careers in designing, planning, managing, building and maintaining the built environment. 3) Arts, A/V Technology & Communications Designing, producing, exhibiting, performing, writing, and publishing multimedia content including visual and performing arts and design, journalism, and entertainment services. 4) Business Management & Administration Careers in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating business functions essential to efficient and productive business operations. 5) Education & Training Planning, managing and providing education and training services, and related learning support services such as administration, teaching/training, administrative support, and professional support services. 6) Finance Planning and related services for financial and investment planning, banking, insurance, and business financial management. 7) Government & Public Administration Planning and executing government functions at the local, state and federal levels, including governance, national security, foreign service, planning, revenue and taxation, and regulations. 8) Health Science Planning, managing, and providing therapeutic services, diagnostic services, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development. 9) Hospitality & Tourism Preparing individuals for employment in career pathways that relate to families and human needs such as restaurant and food/beverage services, lodging, travel and tourism, recreation, amusement and attractions. 10) Human Services Preparing individuals for employment in career pathways that relate to families and human needs such as counseling and mental health services, family and community services, personal care, and consumer services. 11) Information Technology Building linkages in IT occupations for entry level, technical, and professional careers related to the design, development, support and management of hardware, software, multimedia and systems integration services. 12) Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security Planning, managing, and providing legal, public safety, protective services and homeland security, including professional and technical support services. 13) Manufacturing Planning, managing and performing the processing of materials into intermediate or final products and related professional and technical support activities such as production planning and control, maintenance and manufacturing/process engineering. 14) Marketing Planning, managing, and performing marketing activities to reach organizational objectives such as brand management, professional sales, merchandising, marketing communications and market research. 15) Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics Planning, managing, and providing scientific research and professional and technical services (e.g., physical science, social science, engineering) including laboratory and testing services, and research and development services. 16) Transportation, Distribution & Logistics The planning, management, and movement of people, materials, and goods by road, pipeline, air, rail and water and related professional and technical support services such as transportation infrastructure planning and management, logistics services, mobile equipment and facility maintenance. CLUSTER Education & Training PATHWAY Administration PATHWAY Teaching & Training PATHWAY Professional Support Services At this point, you can ask the students to tell you what cluster and pathway did John Smith pursue, when he decided to become a Counselor. What pathway did Marsha Jones pursue when she decided to become a High School English teacher? Have students refer to page 4 in their packets, in order to examine what the frame illustration looks like from the website. Point out that the frame is read from the bottom up…and have students pay careful attention to the highlighted sections of that frame. They will soon use the to research the various pathways from each of these clusters in order to see all of the different occupational options that are available. FYI: Some students may be interested in exploring a different cluster, than your program area’s. Do not discourage this. The purpose of this lesson is for students to explore their options. 2) Rewrite lengthy info. to fit in boxes (get rid of “+” signs) 3) Save to your TCD Folder (File– Save As– Computer--& click on where ever you see your TCD I.D.
