1 This is Casimiro Martins
This is Casimiro Martins. He was born in Portugal, in a village named Cércio, in Miranda do Douro, in He started working very early and he was a farmer there until he was 20 years old. When he reached that age he emigrated to Bordeaux, France, where he also worked as a farmer. He learnt how to speak French very quickly and he found Bordeaux very beautiful, mainly because of the Cathedral of Bordeaux because he was Christian and the Cathedral was very big and majestic.

2 He was dissatisfied there because he wanted to gain more money so he searched for a job in Germany and in Australia. He received an invitation to work in the last one, so he emigrated there. He took a plane to New York, USA, and he visited the city while he was waiting to take a plane to Australia. He visited the Central Park and found it very beautiful because it was one of the few places there that had trees and vegetation. There was a big difference between Cércio or Bordeaux and New York but he didn’t get lost and he took a plane to Australia.

3 He arrived in Sidney and he started working there in a stone factory
He arrived in Sidney and he started working there in a stone factory. In Sidney he met a man who invited Casimiro to work in a car factory. He had a sister named Júlia who married Casimiro later. She was born in the same region as him and she worked in the Royal Hospital. A couple of years later they had a son named Nelson and then Casimiro started working as a mason. They didn’t knew how to speak English very well but their friends taught them some words and part of the Australian culture. They lived in Australia during 14 years and then they went back to Portugal and they started living in Vale de Mira, in Miranda do Douro.

4 To conclude I would like to say that I think that immigration is very important to build a country because we can learn lots of new things from a different culture in another country and we can also teach things about our culture. That contributes to multiculturalism. For example, when they arrived in Portugal, Júlia started caring more about her health and she stopped scratching her nails because in the hospital she worked at she learnt that that can lead to diseases when she saw the big quantity of microbes in a nail in the microscope. She also learnt lots of new recipes and Casimiro learnt new techniques.
